Rainfall-Induced or Lake-Water-Level-Controlled Landslide? An Example from the Steep Slopes of Lake Balaton, Hungary

چکیده

The present paper provides a case study and an overview of the stability high banks bordering eastern basin largest central European lake, Lake Balaton, in Hungary. External factors such as rain, lake-water level, or pore water pressure are considered analysis. slope was assessed using two software with different approximations calculation methods. results models Plaxis Rocscience Slide2 compared. One major identified failure scenarios is deep-seating rotational landslides that triggered by rain elevated groundwater table. modeled slip surfaces good agreement inclinometer monitoring data site; meanwhile, top failures not influenced level.

On the feasibility of using a lake water balance model to infer rainfall: an example from Lake Victoria

A water balance model of Lake Victoria that can be used to assess rainfall from lake level, is derived. The model utilizes satellite estimates of rainfall directly over the lake. The model, initially derived and calibrated for the period 1956-1978, is reformulated here in such a way that all water balance terms except evaporation can be calculated from a combination of catchment rainfall and le...

Categorizing Wetland Vegetation by Airborne Laser Scanning on Lake Balaton and Kis-Balaton, Hungary

Outlining patches dominated by different plants in wetland vegetation provides information on species succession, microhabitat patterns, wetland health and ecosystem services. Aerial photogrammetry and hyperspectral imaging are the usual data acquisition methods but the application of airborne laser scanning (ALS) as a standalone tool also holds promises for this field since it can be used to q...

First occurrence of the eel parasite Paraquimperia tenerrima in Lake Balaton, Hungary

The parasite fauna of the eel has been studied regularly since the first imported eels were introduced to Lake Balaton in 1963. Over a long period of time no important parasitic infections were recorded. However, the importance of nematode infections has increased since 1991, when the pathogenic nematode Anguillicola crassus was first detected and intensive eel mortalities started to occur. Thi...

Analysis of Rainfall-Induced Landslide on Unsaturated Soil Slopes

This paper investigates rainfall-induced landslides on partially saturated soil slopes using the 2011 Umyeonsan landslides at the center of Seoul, Korea. An integrated analysis of rainfall-induced landslide was carried out through laboratory tests, field tests, and numerical analysis. The results of comprehensive investigations in the Umyeonsan region demonstrate that landslide activity is clos...

Steep Slopes: Part I. Simulated Rainfall Conditions

Steep slopes consisting of disturbed soil are very often found in construction, landfill, and surface mining situations. Although legislation and economics dictate that vegetative cover be established on these slopes as rapidly as possible, the occurrence of large rainfall events during critical periods of vegetation establishment can frequently cause extensive soil loss. Sediment generated fro...
